Sonia Contera

Professor of Physics at the University of Oxford. She studied physics and languages at the Autonomous University of Madrid. After the fall of the Soviet Union, she continued his studies in Moscow and Prague, and later, in Beijing. She returned to physics in Japan, and obtained her PhD at Osaka University, in the field of nanotechnology. Her interest in this subject and the profound influence of Japanese science pushed her into biology. Currently, she has been researching and teaching in Oxford's Department of Physics since 2003. Her research focuses on the physics that arise at the convergence of biology, nanotechnology and information science, and also on their applications to medicine or bioinspired materials. She is also a columnist for the newspaper El País and author of Nanotecnología viva (Arpa, 2023).
